HOW TO

Visio 2002 UML to XMI Export Facility Installation

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

CASE tool functionality is only available in ArcEditor and ArcInfo. Relationships and geometric networks are read-only in ArcView (Float and Single Use).

The Microsoft Repository is no longer supported by Visio 2002. Instead UML models can be exported as XML files using the XMI Export download. The upgraded CASE Tools support the generation of schema and code from models stored in XMI.

Procedure

Instructions provided describe how to install the Visio 2002 UML to XMI Export Facility.

  1. Download and install the Service Release 1 for Visio 2002 Professional.
  2. Download the XMI export facility and save the XMIExport file. This is a Visio Add-on that allows exporting models to XMI.
  3. Double-click on XMIExport.exe to begin the file extraction. The XMIExport.dll is located in the folder where the file’s contents are extracted. Copy this file to the Visio 2002 installation folder ...\Visio10\DLL.
  4. DO NOT create the VisioUmlAddon.vsl file as described on the XMI Export download web page. Instead, copy the file from the ArcGIS installation folder ...CaseTools\Utilities\ESRI XMI Export.vsl to the Visio 2002 installation folder ...Visio10\1033\Solutions\Visio Extras.

    Note:
The ESRI XMI Export.vsl file is a replacement for the VisioUmlAddon.vsl file. The VisioUmlAddon.vsl file has a dependency on Developer Studio. The ESRI XMI Export.vsl file removes this dependency.

    Warning:
Important: a file called uml.dtd must be present in the directory that contains the XMI files (the file may be empty). This file is located in the ArcGIS installation folder ...\CaseTools\Utilities folder.
