Problem: Repository Setup is Unsuccessful

Description

During the repository set up, while running the post installation setup, the following error message occurs:

"Repository setup is unsuccessful".

The wise_err.log contains a line similar to:

"illegal option -- Files\arcgis\arcsde\sqlexe\".

Cause

ArcSDE is being installed to a directory with spaces in the name. For example: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS.

Solution or Workaround

1. Open the wise_err.log file found at <ArcSDE installation location>ArcSDE\<database>exe\etc.

2. Look for spaces in any incomplete directory name in the first line after the 'illegal option'. If the incomplete path is caused by a space in the installation directory, select one of the two options given below:

Run the repository set up from the command line.
Navigate to %SDEHOME%\bin and manually launch sdesetup<database>.exe
Uninstall ArcSDE. Re-install it to a path without spaces; for example: C:\arcgis. Run the Post installation setup.
