Frequently asked question

What are the ArcIMS Application Server log files?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

The ArcIMS Application Server handles the distribution of incoming requests. It tracks which services are running on which ArcIMS Spatial Servers and routes requests to the appropriate Spatial Server.

1. AppServerStatus.log

This file, located at <ArcIMS Installation Directory>\AppServer on Windows and at
<ArcIMS Installation Directory>/Middleware/Application_Server on Linux/UNIX, contains the administration information that transpires between the ArcIMS Administrators, Application Server and Spatial Servers. It is generated automatically.

2. app_srvr.log

This optional log file, available on Linux/UNIX only, contains the Application Server version information. By default, it is located at <ArcIMS Installation Directory>/log. It is created by specifying a log file location on the java command line or in the aimsappsrvr file. App_srvr.log is the default name assigned to this file in the AppServer component startup script. The file name and location can be changed.
Note:
The content logged to the file is the same as the information contained in the ArcIMS Console window when initialized.

3. AppServerDebug_<PID>.log

If activated, this log file is located at <ArcIMS Installation Directory>\AppServer\log on Windows and <ArcIMS Installation Directory>/Middleware/Application_Server/log on Linux/UNIX. It stores detailed registration information between the ArcIMS Application and Spatial Servers. It is activated through the AppServer.properties file.
