Error: Invalid column value
When copying and pasting a personal geodatabase feature class into an ArcSDE database, the action fails and returns the following message:
"Invalid column value."
A domain description in the object being copied from the personal geodatabase is longer than 160 characters.
Personal geodatabases allow domain descriptions of up to 255 characters, while the limit is 160 characters in ArcSDE.
Solution or Workaround
To avoid this error message in the future, perform the following tasks:
- In ArcCatalog, modify the description of the domain to be less than 160 characters in the database properties dialog box.
- Connect to the ArcSDE database as the ArcSDE user and use SQL to widen the DESCRIPTION column on the GDB_Domains table to a length of 255 characters.
