Is This Content Helpful?
We're glad to know this article was helpful.
This problem is typically associated with the following behavior:
- Maps generated by the ImageServer or the ImageServerArcMap will display in an HTML Viewer.
- The same maps do not display in ArcExplorer Java or in ArcMap.
- In attempting to display a map in ArcExplorer Java, the ArcExplorer Message Console displays an error message which starts
with the statement, "java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol:"
When creating an ArcIMS ImageServer or ImageServerArcMap service, an HTTP Location (URL) must be specified. Although ArcIMS allows relative URLs (for example: '/output' or '../../output'), they do not work with ArcExplorer or ArcMap.
Use absolute URLs instead of relative URLs. Absolute URLs always contain an "http://" at the beginning followed by a complete URL to the output alias, also known as a virtual directory. For example, 'http://gis.MyOrganization.org/output' is an absolute URL.
