The following are various ways to create .dxf files in PC ARC/INFO and Data Automation Kit (DAK) from coverages.
1. Use the DXFARC utility from the [ARC] prompt.
For more information see the Windows Online Help or the 'PC ARC/INFO Command References - PC Data Conversion' book for the ARCDXF utility.
Do not name the output .dxf file the same as the input coverage. You will receive the error message '<coverage> Already
Exists', and the .dxf file will not be created.
2. Use the following Menu procedures in the WSHELL program:
Conversion > From PC ARC/INFO To DXF
Then use the Dialog Pick and Browse buttons to choose the desired input
coverage(s) and the output .dxf file. Click OK to complete the process.
3. Perform the following procedures from ArcEdit (the DOS version only):
A. Type "CON-CGI" and choose the METAFILE driver DXFTEXT.SYS at the [ARC] prompt.
B. Choose EXIT to select the driver.
C. Start ArcEdit.
D. Type "DISPLAY 3".
E. Set the MAPEXTENT.
F. Set the DRAWENVIRONMENT.
G. Type "DRAW". Wait for the : prompt to come back after you hit Enter. This can take a while depending on the size of the coverage.
H. Type "QUIT".
Now you should have a file something like CGIxxxxx.DXF in your current workspace. The 'xxxxx' varies depending on how many .dxf files you have created previously.
For more information on this option, see the 'What's New in PC ARC/INFO Version 3.5' book.
For more information see the Windows Online Help.
DAK does not have the capability to create .dxf files thru the ARCEDITW module. The METAFILE Common Gateway Interface (CGI)-based driver used in PC ARC/INFO 3.5 is a DOS-based driver. Since DAK is a Windows-only program, it does not use any CGI drivers, which is why you cannot create .dxf files from ARCEDITW.
