FAQ: What is the minimum conventional memory requirement for PC ARC/INFO?
What is the minimum conventional memory requirement for PC ARC/INFO?
Since version 3.5 of PC ARC/INFO, there is no longer a requirement of an extensive amount of conventional memory like in the earlier versions (575K minimum for DOS and about 525K for Windows). PC ARC/INFO 3.5 now has the ability to run in DOS EXTENDED MEMORY, which eliminates the need for complete dependence on the conventional memory. PC ARC/INFO 3.5 requires a minimum of 4 MB of RAM for the DOS EXTENDED MEMORY.
PC ARC/INFO 3.5 still uses some conventional memory to run an executable that keeps track of where things are running in the DOS EXTENDED MEMORY. The amount of conventional memory required by PC ARC/INFO 3.5 is 100K.
PC ARC/INFO Windows Extensions: Windows 3.1, 3.11, and 95 have their own conventional memory limits that are above and beyond what is necessary for PC ARC/INFO 3.5.
