How To: Create aliases for a DBTable

Column aliases for a DBTable must be created in the Add Database Table Dialog box when importing into ArcView GIS or the alias will not display in the table.

  1. Open Arcview.
  2. Navigate to Project > Add Database Table in the Project Window. If no database connection exists, you can establish one in this dialog.
  3. Use the SQL 'as' clause for each column you wish to create an alias.

For example, making the following statement will alias the field 'dstnc' as 'distance'

    avuser.tablename.dstnc as distance

Aliased fields in a DBTable will not show the underlying column name when joined to other tables.
