Error: Error When Trying to Administer Service. Service Can Not Be Created. MXD Document

Error Message

When adding an ArcMap Service, ArcIMS returns the following message:

“Error When trying to administer Service.
Service 'service name' can not be created. MXD document contains a layer pointing to a secure service."

Cause

Serving ArcMap documents that use ArcIMS services as layers within the map is supported for free services only. Users will not be able to serve ArcMap documents that contain secure services.

Solution or Workaround

In order to create an ArcMap Service with an ArcMap document containing secure services, it will be necessary to remove the secure service layers from the map and resave the ArcMap document.
