ERROR

Invalid coverage type: Annotation._

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

When using the Geodatabase to Coverage conversion tool with the 'Merge into a single coverage' option and renaming the output subclasses as a number, the following error occurs:

"Invalid coverage type: Annotation._"

Numbers in the output names are changed to underscores as the text box loses focus.

Cause

This is a known issue. Output names that start with a number are not allowed and are changed to the system default of an underscore. In this case all subclasses of the same coverage will have the same name, which causes the error.

Solution or Workaround

Make sure the first character for any output begins with a letter or underscore.

Characters after the first one can contain both alpha (A to Z) and numeric (0 to 9) values. Dashes (-) and underscores (_) are allowed but not periods (.).
