HOW TO

Use the Add XY Data command for values in a feature attribute table

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Procedure

  1. Add the feature class containing the XY data to ArcMap.
  2. Right-click the layer in the Table of Contents and select Open Attribute Table.
  3. Select Options > Export from the table window.
  4. Enter the name and location of the new table.
  5. Select the export format. The table format options are Personal geodatabase, dBASE, Info, SDE or Text.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Add the exported table to ArcMap.
  8. Select Add XY Data from the Tools menu.
  9. Select the exported table from the 'Choose a table from the map...' pulldown menu.
  10. Select the X and Y fields that contain the coordinate information.
  11. Define the Spatial Reference for the event layer.
  12. Click OK.
