Connecting to the Geography Network causes ArcCatalog or ArcMap to crash

Description

ArcMap or ArcCatalog crashes when connecting to the Geography Network.

Cause

The Internet Explorer Version 6 msxm.dll needs to be registered.

1. Open a Command Prompt window.
   1. Click Start > Run > type cmd.
   2. Click OK.
2. Navigate to the System32 directory.
   
   Windows NT and 2000:

   cd Winnt\system32 

   Windows XP:

   cd Windows\system32

3. Register msxml.dll:

   regsvr32.exe msxml.dll
