How To: Adjust vertical spacing of text in an ArcMap layout

You can fit larger amounts of text in a smaller area, or smaller amounts of text in a larger area, by adjusting the vertical spacing of stacked text in your ArcMap layout.

Use this function when the space between stacked text is either too large or too small.

  1. Click the Select Elements tool from the Draw toolbar.
  2. Double-click the desired text.
  3. Adjust the value for Leading. To enlarge the space between the stacked text, increase this value. To shrink that space, reduce the value into negative numbers.

    Leading defaults to zero.
