ArcMap may fail with a fatal error when saving edits to a geodatabase version or when performing a reconcile. This fatal error may occur with ArcObject applications as well.
The fatal error will not cause data loss or data corruption, but the edit session will loose all the changes since the last successful 'Save Edits' operation.
This specific fatal error only occurs if you have installed ArcGIS 8.1 Service Pack 1 - Geodatabase Patch (Aidt-81SP1-10), or ArcGIS 8.1 Service Pack 1 - Geodatabase Patch v 2 (Aidt-81SP1-13).
The cause of the fatal error is due to a problem in the geodatabase cache with relationship classes used during a reconcile.
The application will not fail on the first reconcile, but it will fail on a second reconcile. For example:
· Two users are editing the same version and one attempts to save the edits a second time, forcing the edit session to be reconciled with the current representation of the version.
· A user reconciles a version with its parent version, and prior to posting, re-reconciles the version because the parent version has been modified.

This issue has been resolved in ArcGIS Version 8.1.2.
