When the SeSqlConstruct object in an SeQuery has a where clause containing multibyte characters (e.g., Japanese or Chinese character strings), a Null Pointer Exception is thrown when executing the query.
This is a known issue with the ArcSDE Java application programming interface (API).
There is no work-around for this issue. This problem has been fixed in ArcSDE 8.1 SP2.
