PROBLEM

Layer attribute tables ignore layer definition queries

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Attribute tables for layers created from route event tables or XY tables display all records despite a layer Definition Query limiting the records. The features in the Data View are correctly limited by the Definition Query.

Cause

This is a known issue. This problem occurs when the table doesn't have an object ID column. For example, text file tables or tables from an OLEDB data sources don't support an object ID column.

Solution or Workaround

This issue has been resolved in ArcGIS Version 8.1.2.

In ArcGIS 8.1:

  1. Convert the route event table or XY table to a data source that supports object IDs, sucha as registered geodatabase tables, dBASE files, and INFO tables.
  2. Generate the layer from the new table and apply the definition query.
