Error: SHAPE Error(25) Column value could not be converted into a number or a date
When you export a feature class from an ArcInfo 8.0.2 geodatabase to a coverage, ArcCatalog returns several "SHAPE Error(25) Column value could not be converted into a number or a date" errors. In other cases ArcCatalog will freeze up.
The conversion fails because of null values in a geodatabase numeric column. ArcInfo coverages do not support null values for numeric fields. ArcCatalog may hang because it cannot handle the number of error message lines created from the failed conversion.
Solution or Workaround
Calculate the numeric fields with NULL values to 0.
- Add the data to ArcMap and Start Editing.
- Open the Field Calculator. A. Right-click the layer in the TOC.
B. For all records, if nothing is selected, click Open Attribute Table.
C. For selected features, click Selection. On the pop-up menu, click 'Open table for selected features'.
D. Find the desired item.
E. Right-click the field name.
F. On the pop-up menu, click Calculate Values to bring up the Field Calculator menu.
- Type "0" into the expression box and click OK.
