PROBLEM

Stacked labels can not be right-aligned

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

In ArcMap, when a label expression specifies multiple lines (stacked labels), the resulting labels are always left-aligned.

Example: [NAME] & vbNewLine & [HEIGHT]

Cause

The vertical alignment and horizontal alignment properties for text symbols are being ignored.

Solution or Workaround

Convert your labels to annotation. Then change their horizontal alignment via the text symbol properties.

See the ArcGIS Desktop Help topic "Converting labels to annotation."

  1. If your annotation is stored in a Geodatabase, start an edit session.
  2. Select any or all of your annotation features using the select elements tool.

  3. Right-click the selected annotation and bring up the Properties dialog box.
  4. Click the Change Symbol button.
  5. From the Symbol Selector dialog box, click Properties and select the General tab.
  6. Specify the desired horizontal alignment
