Can't select a field on the Find dialog box in ArcMap

Description

When using the Find dialog box to search for features that are similar to or contain a search string on a single field, you can not select a particular field in the fields list. The field is visible, but when you select it, the dropdown list reverts to another field.

Cause

This is a known issue. This phenomena occurs when the Shape field is hidden. You will not be able to search on the field immediately following the Shape field in the table.

Solution or Workaround

1. Right-click the Layer and select Properties.
2. Switch to the Fields tab.
3. Select the Shape field.
4. Check the Visible check box.
5. Click Apply and OK.
