HOW TO

Repair a broken link for a layer based on an image service

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

If you open a map containing an image service, and you notice the layer is grayed out and has a red exclamation mark next to it in the ArcMap table of contents (TOC), the image service has a broken link. Two of the methods typically used to repair a broken data link for layers in ArcMap are unavailable for image services. There is no Data Source menu item in the image service layer context menu, nor is there a button on the Source tab of image service Layer Property pages.

Procedure

Use the most common and straightforward link repair method:

  1. Click the red exclamation mark next to the layer in the TOC.
  2. In the Data Source dialog box, navigate to the appropriate data source.
  3. Select the data and click OK.
