ArcCatalog and ArcMap stop responding when an Image Service is to be drawn

Description

Previewing an Image Service in ArcCatalog, or adding an Image Service in ArcMap, will cause the application to stop responding.

Cause

The Microsoft XML dll (msxml.dll) has not been registered correctly.

1. Start a Command Prompt window. Click indows Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

2. Change directories to your Windows System 32, and run the DLL registration utility. For example:
 

cd WinNT\System32
regsvr32.exe msxml.dll
