HOW TO

Optimize loading time of multiple rasters into a geodatabase as a single raster dataset

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

Loading rasters into a geodatabase can be a time-intensive process. This is generally a result of building pyramids and statistics for each raster being added to the geodatabase.

Procedure

  1. In ArcCatalog or ArcToolbox, for each raster you are adding, click the Change Settings button in the Raster To Geodatabase window.
  2. Click the Storage tab, uncheck the Build Statistics option and select the Do Not Build Pyramids option.
  3. For the last raster in the input list, check the Build Statistics option and select the Build Pyramids option.

This will delay the building of statistics and pyramids until the end of the process, rather than rebuilding the pyramids for the entire mosaicked raster after each raster is appended.
