Cannot use ArcCatalog to copy/paste an SDE 3.x layer from SDE 3.x database to a geodatabase

Description

In ArcCatalog, when copying a layer from an SDE 3.x database to a geodatabase, Paste is disabled

Cause

The copy/paste functionality in ArcCatalog does not support copying SDE layers from versions of ArcSDE earlier than 8.0.1.

Solution or Workaround

Use the Geodatabase to Geodatabase tool in ArcCatalog to copy the SDE layer to a geodatabase feature class:

  1. Right-click the layer in the catalog tree.
  2. Click Export/Geodatabase to Geodatabase.
  3. Select you target geodatabase and, optionally, feature dataset.
