The selection menu items are disabled for raster layers in ArcGIS 8.1. Raster selection functionality is implemented through the raster table.

To create a raster selection:
1. Right-click the raster layer and click Open Attribute Table.
2. Click the Options button.
3. Click Select by Attributes. This will bring up the Select By Attributes window.
