Error Message

The error message, "Could not edit any of the map's layers. Check to see if a layer or table contains a unique index on a user managed column." appears when trying to edit a personal geodatabase feature class or table.

Cause

Edits cannot be made to a personal geodatabase feature class or table that has a unique index on a user-defined field. Also, edits cannot be made if the feature class resides in a dataset where another feature class has a unique index.

Solution or Workaround



  1. Open ArcCatalog.
  2. Right-click on the dataset and select Properties.
  3. Switch to the Indexes tab on the dataset Properties dialog.
  4. Delete each Unique index.
