Cannot preview (3D View) layer

Description

In the 3D Analyst tutorial, Exercise 1 p. 10, if you click on a layer in ArcCatalog and click Preview, there is no 3D View option.

Cause

The 3D Analyst extension is not enabled in ArcCatalog by default.

Solution or Workaround

1. Click Tools and click Extensions.
   
2. Check 3D Analyst.
3. Click Close.
   
   

   Note:
    You must enable the extension in ArcCatalog and in ArcMap before it becomes usable. 

   
   

   Note:
    You will also need to enable the 3D Analyst extension again from within ArcMap to use the 3D Analyst functionality in ArcMap in Exercise 4.
