Problem: Some categories are missing from the ESRI Component Category Manager


When you open the Component Category Manager (Categories.exe), some of the categories are missing.


The install program for Adobe Acrobat Reader installs some corrupt entries in the Component Categories section of the registry. The Component Category Manager encounters these corrupt registry entries when it is populating its list of categories and fails to add all of them to the list.

Solution or Workaround

Use the FixRegistry.exe utility to report and fix errors in the Component Category section of the registry. This utility is located in the \arcgis\arcexe81\ArcObjects Developer Kit\Utilities folder.
