Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

Running a tool when setting up a geoprocessing server sometimes returns:

Unable to Send Request to Server. Make Sure Your Local Drive is Shared

Cause

The appropriate drive or folder has not been shared.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the drive where the data is located.
  2. Right-click the drive or folder and select Sharing
  3. Select Shared As and specify a name.

    Note:
When sharing a drive such as C, make sure to give it a new share name. ArcToolBox does not function correctly when the default C$ is chosen for the Drive name. Create a new share name by clicking on 'New Share' and specifying a name.
