Starting an ArcEdit or ArcPlot session returns the following error message:
"Illegal font number xxxxx (FNTGET)"
The fontindex, a text file located in $ARCHOME$\locale\c, that lists the paths to fonts on the system for ArcInfo modules has been damaged.
The font, that the user is trying to access or on which a markerset is based, has not been added to the ArcInfo installation by the ArcPlot command FONTLOAD.
Start ArcPlot and key in the FONTLOAD command. When the FontLoader graphic user interface appears, follow the instructions in Knowledge Base article How To: Install custom markersets in ArcInfo Workstation to add the font to the installation.
