Arcview crashes after start up

Description

Left-clicking the File option in ArcView either crashes the ArcView window, or after it initializes, the window disappears and/or an error occurs (often a Segmentation Violation).

Cause

A conflict between Sun's Open Windows and the Common Desktop Environment (CDE).

Solution or Workaround

1. Add the following line to the .cshrc file:

   setenv OIT_LOOK_MOTIF

   
   
2. Source the .cshrc, use Open Windows and restart ArcView.
   
   

   Note:
   Do not set the OIT_WMGR
