Work with ArcView in 24-bit Xserver mode on UNIX

Summary

This document describe how to configure a Solaris machine with a 24-bit Creator 3D graphics card to use 24-bit color depth.

Procedure



  1. Type the following command at the UNIX prompt.

    Code:
    xdpyinfo

    Note:
    Examine the 'Root Visual Depth' within the 'Default Visual' parameter. You will need to modify the file /usr/dt/config/Xservers to adjust this setting to 24-bit color depth.

  2. Open the file /usr/dt/config/Xservers in a text editor.
  3. Find the line ending with "-nobanner". Add the following to the end of this line.

    Code:
    -dev /dev/fb defdepth 24 defclass TrueColor

  4. Save the file.
  5. Restart the CDE login program to initiate your changes.
  6. Enter the following command once again.

    Code:
    xdpyinfo

    Note:
    Root Visual Depth should report a 24-bit color depth.
