PROBLEM

DISSOLVE did not remove all arcs that were expected to

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

DISSOLVE on an item does not always remove all the arcs between polygons with the same polygon value on either side.

Cause

The chosen item may be floating point; thus, some of its values may not be the same. Due to the nature of floating point representations, some values may differ at very small decimal places.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Decide on an appropriate number of decimal places to retain.
  2. Create a numeric (N) type item, with the desired number of decimal places.
  3. CALC the new N item with values from the floating point item.

You can use this N type item with the DISSOLVE command.
