How To: Configure the Summasketch III, 4 button puck digitizer
Steps to configure a Summagraphics Summasketch III digitizer with a four button puck.
1. Do not load the Summasketch Drivers provided with the digitizer. Ensure
those drivers are not loaded in the AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS or the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI files. Also ensure that all device drivers are removed
from the Windows Operating System. PC ARC/INFO and the DAK do not use them.
2. Initialize the digitizer with the SEND command. The SEND.COM Summasketch utility driver is provided on a floppy diskette from the manufacturer in the A:\UTILITY\ sub-directory. Use the following steps to install the SEND.COM driver.
a) Create a C:\SUMMA\UTILITY\ sub-directory
b) Copy the A:\UTILITY\SEND.COM file to the C:\SUMMA\UTILITY\ sub-directory
c) Edit the C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add the following line:
:\SUMMA\UTILITY\SEND /x /m /o /Czaczr /j <-- where x is the COM port
d) Save the AUTOEXEC.BAT file
e) Reboot your PC
3. Start the DAK. Choose the following settings from the FILE | CONFIGURE | DIGITIZER dialog box:
Port: x <-- where x is the COM port number
Baud Rate: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Stop Bits: 1
4. Click OK when done. You can now verify that the digitizer is working by using the FILE | CONFIGURE | DGITIZER TEST.
Since the digitizer has a four button cursor, it has already defaulted to MM format; thus, there is no reason to load the MM utility drivers.
