Problem: Symbol Characters Display Incorrectly in Atlas

Why are symbols displayed on the screen as random characters?

Cause:

The Carta S TrueType font, used by Atlas GIS, is either damaged, missing, or not recognized. In the Atlas GIS root directory, there should be the cartas.ttf file, which Atlas uses for its symbols.

Solution:

To restore the proper symbols follow these steps:

1. Navigate to My Computer | Control Panel |Fonts
2. Select the Carta S font
3. Navigate to View | Options
4. Click the TrueType tab
5. Check the 'Show only TrueType' fonts in the 'Programs on my computer' check box.
6. Click Apply
7. Click OK
8. Restart your computer
