Solution or Workaround

What information do the ArcInfo log file columns contain?

Answer:

The contents of log files are slightly different for 6.x and 7.x. The ArcInfo
7.x log file records look like this:

199108211627 0 3 0mary generate test
199108211628 1 2 0mary build test point

These columns are interpreted this way:
End End Elapsed CPU I/O user
Date Time Minutes Seconds Blocks ID Command
-------- ----- ------- ------- ------ ------- ----------------
08/21/91 16:27 0 3 0 mary generate test
08/21/91 16:28 1 2 0 mary build test point

The ARC/INFO 6.x log file records look like this:

199108211627 0 3 0 generate test
199108211628 1 2 0 build test point

These columns are interpreted this way:

End End Elapsed CPU I/O
Date Time Minutes Seconds Blocks Command
-------- ----- ------- ------- ------ -------
08/21/91 16:27 0 3 0 generate test
08/21/91 16:28 1 2 0 build test point

Notes:

I/O blocks will always be zero on UNIX systems.
