Problem: Error 000042 returned when creating a General—Single Field address locator
When creating an address locator with the General—Single Field style, the following error is returned.
Error: 000042: Failed to create the address locator.
This error is returned when the field mapped to the KeyField is not of the Text data type.
Only fields with the Text data type are allowed when mapping to the KeyField in the General—Single Field style address locator, as mentioned in the following document: Commonly used address locator styles in ArcGIS Desktop 10.4 and newer versions.
Solution or Workaround
When running the Create Address Locator tool with the General—Single Field style, ensure that the field mapped to the KeyField is set to the Text data type, even if the field only contains digits.
