ArcGIS (Desktop, Engine, Server) Oracle Data Type Patch

Published: March 24, 2020

Summary

This patch addresses an issue where opening a registered class in Oracle Enterprise Geodatabases using ArcGIS 10.6.1 and newer clients incorrectly changes data type's metadata defined as a double (10, 0) to a long integer.

Description

EsriĀ® announces the ArcGIS (Desktop, Engine, Server) Oracle Data Type Patch. This patch resolves an issue where ArcGIS 10.6.1 and newer clients will incorrectly change a data type's metadata defined as a double (10, 0) to a long integer for a registered class in an Oracle enterprise geodatabase.

If this happens the following error can be encountered [ORA-01455: converting columns overflows integer datatype] when opening the classes table in ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro and there are values in these fields which exceed the maximum long integer value of 2,147,483,647.

This issue only affects the geodatabase catalog's metadata and does not impact the field's definition on the table.

This patch deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this patch.

Issues Addressed with this patch

  • BUG-000118138 - ArcGIS Double fields with precision = 10 and scale = 0 in an Oracle geodatabase are altered automatically to Long Integer after previewing in ArcGIS 10.6.1/ArcGIS Pro 2.2 or later clients. An error is returned, "[ORA-01455: converting columns overflows integer datatype]" if the fields contain numbers larger than the maximum for a Long Integer (2,147,483,647).
To avoid conflicts the 10.7.1 version also addresses:
  • BUG-000124326 - Renaming an SDO_Geometry feature class fails on Oracle 19c.
  • BUG-000124325 - Create Spatial Type fails on Oracle 19c.
To avoid conflicts the 10.7 version also addresses:
  • There are no cumulative issues for this version.
To avoid conflicts the 10.6.1 version also addresses:
  • BUG-000124326 - Renaming an SDO_Geometry feature class fails on Oracle 19c.
  • BUG-000124325 - Create Spatial Type fails on Oracle 19c.
  • BUG-000122703 - Related fixes for the Optimized Compress work
  • BUG-000121378 - Data loss in the text field (VARCHAR2) when importing data using ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 (HF-000004619) to Oracle geodatabase if the field characters are more than 2000 characters.
  • BUG-000121297 - Font smoothing in Windows 10 significantly degrades ArcMap performance.
  • BUG-000115147 - When calling ITopologicalOperator::Buffer on a polygon, if the polygon is degenerated to a point, the buffer call crashes.
