Introduction
ESRI® announces the ArcGIS Server 9.3 for the Java Platform REST API Performance and Functionality Patch.
This patch includes a fix to improve performance when accessing map tiles
on a secure ArcGIS Server and another fix to address an error when working with Geocode service locators that do not
contain an intersection. The specific issues addressed in this patch are listed below.

Installing this Patch on UNIX
ArcGIS 9.3 must be installed before you can install this Patch.
- Make sure you have write access to your installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS Server 9.3 for the Java Platform.
- Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.
- Extract the specified tar file by typing:
- Stop the server by running the command /arcgis/scripts/stopserver.
% <install directory>/arcgis/scripts/stopserver
- Start the installation by typing:
- Start the server by running the command /arcgis/scripts/startserver.
% <install directory>/arcgis/scripts/startserver

Sun Solaris: gis93-rest-patch-slrs.tar
Linux: gis93-rest-patch-lx.tar
% tar -xvf gis93-rest-patch-<Platform>.tar
% ./applypatch
This will start the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default
selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure,
type 'q' at any time.
Installing this Patch on Windows
ArcGIS 9.3 must be installed before you can install this Patch.
- Make sure you have write access to your installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS Server 9.3 for the Java Platform.
- Download ServerJava93RESTPatch.msp to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.
- Stop the ArcGIS Server Manager Service using Windows Services. (To open Window Services, click on Start –> Control Panel –> Administrative Tools –> Services)
- Double-click the msp files to start the install process.
NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the Patch installation, you can start the installation manually by using the following command:
msiexec.exe /p [location of patch]\ServerJava93RESTPatch.msp
- When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.
