ESRI® announces the ArcGIS 9.1 Desktop Patch for Internet Explorer 7 Users. This patch addresses an issue where opening any geoprocessing dialog or the context sensitive Export menu choices in ArcCatalog caused the ArcGIS 9.1 applications to crash when users have Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) on their machine. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

on their machine, to install this patch at their earliest convenience to ensure
the highest quality experience.
NIM002540 - After installing Internet Explorer 7, opening any geoprocessing
dialog causes the application (ArcMap/ArcCatalog/ArcScene/ArcGlobe) to crash
with an error in mfc71u.dll or mfc42u.dll. Also the context sensitive Export
options in ArcCatalog have the same behavior.

- Under the C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Bin folder:
ArcGIS Desktop 9.1 Service Pack 1 must be installed before you can install this Patch.
- Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS Desktop installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS Desktop.
- Download ArcGIS-91sp1-IE7-Patch.exe
to a location other than your ArcGIS Desktop installation location.
- Double-click the setup file to start the install process.
- When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.
NOTE: If you have installed client setups from a shared Network Administrative ArcGIS
Desktop setup, this Patch must be applied to all client installations.
