Alternate Solution

Create a 3D layer and import the model through symbology.

1. Open ArcScene, and add the placement points layer.
2. Go to Point Layer Properties > Symbology tab. Click Symbol > Edit symbol.
3. Select Type: 3D Simple Marker Symbol.
4. Increase size and change color for visualization, and click OK.
5. Open the Layer 3D to Feature Class tool > Input point layer and designate output. Click OK. Add layer to the map.
6. Open the 3D Editor Toolbar and begin an edit session on the new 3D layer.
7. Click on the Edit Placement icon from the 3D Editor toolbar. Select a feature(s) to replace with the model.
8. Go to the 3D Editor drop-down list > Replace with Model. Browse to and select model. Use the scale option in the toolbar dropdown to adjust the size.
