Bug ENH-000098359

Please provide a way to copy a Shortened URL from the Item Details page of a Feature Layer, Map, or App.

Additional Information

Alternate Solution

1. What is the industry?

 Government, Forestry/Natural Resources

2. What is the users workflow and use case?

Current Workflow:

Users in the organization utilize the URL in the address bar of the browser to provide an item's direct link to a colleague. The shortened URL is preferred when it can be found but the customer expresses that this is often difficult to locate.

Use Case:

Being that this a very large organization serving thousands of members attempting to search within the organization for content can be quite difficult unless the user knows exactly what they are looking for. Broad searches return a lot of results. It is for this reason that the organization prefers to share content directly to colleagues or the public using a URL.

Sharing hosted web applications is also something this organization does frequently. Right some applications do not seem to provide a shortened URL.

This organization also uses the short URL to share items to colleagues via text message. In a text message sharing the full link does not look as nice.

3. What is the problem feature X is trying to solve?

A shortened URL in the Item Details > Overview page would save time and confusion for users.  Finding and identifying the shortened URL should be as simple and consistent as possible.  Right now the shortened URL seems to exist and can be found in various locations such as the sharing dialog for web maps but there is no consistent location where users can access this short URL.

4. What is the benefits or changes that would result from the enhancement?

Saved time and money as well as a more streamlined experience for users. Right now users have to hunt around and/or search documentation to find out how to obtain the shortened URL. This organization has thousands of ArcGIS Online users with the number likely to grow > 10,000.  The users come from a wide range of backgrounds, and the current method of obtaining the shortened URLs is too onerous for a segment of those users. Searching the within the organization for content proves difficult due to the amount of content in the organization so the shortened URL is preferred method to share an item directly to a colleague.

5. How critical is the enhancement to your organization?

6. How do you believe this enhancement may benefit other organizations?

The benefit will be consistency in user experience and additional options and simplicity for sharing.
