If a WMTS service does not support the coordinate system of the basemap, instead of using the first coordinate system listed in the capabilities.xml, prompt the user to select which coordinate system should be used.
The following WMTS Service uses a list of coordinate systems listed below.
Coordinate System used by WMTS:
When this service is added to ArcGIS Online map Viewer, the WMTS layer is loaded in EPSG:4326.
When tried adding the WMTS Service in 'The Carbon Project Gaia'(http://thecarbonproject.azurewebsites.net/Products/Gaia), where we were able to see the coordinate systems associated with the specific service. 'Gaia' automatically picked up 'EPSG 4326' in the coordinate system drop-down. However we had the freedom to select the coordinate system unlike AcGIS Online.
Because the map viewer is designed this way, the client needs a functionality or a prompt in which he can select the specific coordinate system that is used by WMTS Service, while adding the service as a basemap in ArcGIS online Map viewer.
