Workaround
The Portal for ArcGIS 10.8.1 Enterprise Sites Patch 1 is now live on the support site. The URL is https://support.esri.com/en/download/7836.
After clicking 'View Metadata or 'Create Webmap', add the web adaptor name in the URL right after the portal URL.
