Workaround

1. Log in as Administrator into the ArcGIS Online Organization.2. Go to My Organization >> Edit Settings >> Utility Services >> Configure Travel Modes. This lists the eight Esri default travel modes. Make a copy of the travel mode such as Driving Time that needs to be modified or modify the existing Driving Time or all other travel modes that is needed to be used with the Directions button.3. In the Modify Travel Mode page, change the Distance Attribute to kilometers and click Save Travel Mode. Repeat this for all travel modes that is expected to be used with the Directions button.4. If the directions button is rerun using the modified travel modes, the driving directions is displayed in kilometres.5. With the September 2015 release, the directions button is expected to honor the units set in the user profile, instead of reading it from the travel mode.
