The color of a raster dataset in ArcGIS Pro is different from the original image

Description

When adding a raster dataset to an ArcGIS Pro map, the original color of the raster image is not preserved. The images below show the original image in Windows Photo Viewer and the raster dataset added in ArcGIS Pro.

Cause

ArcGIS Pro renders the raster dataset with the default stretch type symbology before the map is displayed in the map view. The Stretch function enhances the image by changing its properties, such as brightness, contrast, and gamma, through multiple stretch types.

Solution or Workaround

Use one of the methods below to display the added raster image with the same specifications as the original image.

Set Stretch type to None in the Symbology pane

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. In the Contents pane, right-click the raster layer, and select Symbology.

  1. In the Symbology pane, on the Primary symbology tab, select None from the Stretch type drop-down list. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Learn more about the stretch types for more information.

Set Stretch type to None in the Options window

Note:
Use this workflow when there are more than one raster datasets. This method removes the stretch type for all the raster datasets by default before adding them to the map.
  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. In the Contents pane, right-click the raster layer and select Remove to remove the raster layer.

  1. Click the Project tab on the ribbon to open the settings page.

  1. On the settings page, click the Options tab on the left to open the Options window.

  1. In the Options window, under Application, click Raster and Imagery.
  2. Under Set options for working with rasters and imagery, expand the Appearance node, and expand the Custom rendering defaults node.
  3. Check the Enable custom rendering defaults checkbox.
  4. Select None from the Stretch type drop-down list.
  5. Click OK.

  1. In the Catalog pane, browse to and right-click the raster dataset. Select Add To Current Map to add the raster dataset to the map.

Set Source Type to Processed in the Raster Dataset Properties window

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
  2. In the Contents pane, right-click the raster layer and select Remove to remove the raster layer.

  1. In the Catalog pane, click Folders and browse to the raster dataset.
  2. Right-click the raster dataset in the folder and select Properties.

  1. In the Raster Dataset Properties window, on the General tab, expand the Raster Information node.
  2. Select Processed from the Source Type drop-down list. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: General properties for more information.
  3. Click OK.

  1. In the Catalog pane, browse to and right-click the raster dataset. Select Add To Current Map to add the raster dataset to the map view.
