PROBLEM

A polygon split outputs polygons with null values in the attribute table in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, a polygon split using the Split tool on the Edit ribbon tab outputs polygons with null values in some or all of the fields of the attribute table, as shown in the images below.

Cause

This is by design. The split policy for the geodatabase attribute domain is set to Default, resulting in output polygons having a default value. In some cases, the value is null.

Solution or Workaround

Before splitting the polygon feature, set the geodatabase split policy to Duplicate to retain the attributes of the original polygon after a split in Domains.

  1. In the Catalog pane, right-click the geodatabase where the feature class resides, and click Domains .
  2. For Split Policy, select Duplicate from the drop-down list.

  1. Click Save Image of the new domain fields.

The image below shows output polygons retain the original polygon attributes after it is split.
