ERROR
Note: This article pertains to ArcGIS versions 8.x and 9.x only. Later versions of ArcGIS may contain different functionality, as well as different names and locations for menus, commands and geoprocessing tools.
While creating a new feature in a personal geodatabase feature class, the following error is received after finishing the edit sketch:
"The Create Feature task could not be completed." "Table already exists."
The name of the feature class in which the feature is being created is too long. Microsoft Access has a table length limit of 64 characters. While the name of the feature class may be 64 characters or less, the feature class name is used as the basis for the names of tables required for editing within a personal geodatabase. The error message points to the creation of these tables as failing.
Rename the personal geodatabase feature class so that it is 45 characters or less, which allows the successful creation of the required tables within an edit session.
