Is it possible to block update notifications in ArcGIS Pro, so that end-users are unable to install updates from within the application?
Yes. For system administrators who would like to block users from installing software updates inside the ArcGIS Pro application, it is possible to do so by making the following changes to the Windows Registry. These changes prevent ArcGIS Pro from searching for updates, block notification messages that appear to users on startup, and hide updates otherwise listed on the About page inside the application.

- Click Start, and type regedit in the search box to launch the Registry Editor.
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
for ArcGIS Pro version 1.x HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Esri\ArcGISPro1.0\Settings
for ArcGIS Pro version 2.x HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGISPro\Settings
- Right-click Settings > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name the setting 'CheckForUpdatesAtStartup' (without quotes).
- Leave the value set to 0.
Note: Changing this value to 1, allows ArcGIS Pro to search for updates.
- Launch ArcGIS Pro and go to the Project tab > About.
The Software Update section should show the following status:
