  • Under the $SDEHOME/bin directory:

    sdesetupora9i

Installing the Patch

You must install the ArcSDE 8.2 Oracle Patch before you can install this Patch. It is strongly recommended that you back up your database including all previous ArcSDE system tables and user layer data before upgrading your ArcSDE installation. Install this patch using your SDE user account.

You can install this Patch to a clean installation of ArcSDE 8.2 for Oracle 9.2 or to an upgrade from a previous version of Oracle (i.e., Oracle 9.0.1.2.0).

Clean install (assuming ArcSDE 8.2 is already installed and the Oracle 9.2 database is setup according to ArcSDE and Oracle install documentation):
  1. Download the compressed tar file to your $SDEHOME:
    Oracle 9.2
    Sun Solaris sde82_ora92fix_ora9i_slrs.tar.Z
    276 kb

  2. In the $SDEHOME/bin directory, rename the following file:

    sdesetupora9i to sdesetupora9i.old

  3. Uncompress and extract the tar file by typing:

    % uncompress sde82_ora92fix_ora9i_slrs.tar.Z
    % tar -xvf sde82_ora92fix_ora9i_slrs.tar

  4. Run the updated version of sdesetupora9i:

    % sdesetupora9i -o install

  5. Start your service:

    % sdemon -o start

Upgrading from a previous version of Oracle (assuming upgrade of Oracle database on which ArcSDE 8.2 was installed previously has been upgraded to Oracle 9.2 successfully - ie. Oracle 9.0.1.2.0 to Oracle 9.2):
  1. Download the compressed tar file to your $SDEHOME:
    Oracle 9.2
    Sun Solaris sde82_ora92fix_ora9i_slrs.tar.Z
    276 kb

  2. Stop your current ArcSDE service.

    % sdemon -o shutdown

  3. In the $SDEHOME/bin directory, rename the following file:

    sdesetupora9i to sdesetupora9i.old

  4. Uncompress and extract the tar file by typing:

    % uncompress sde82_ora92fix_ora9i_slrs.tar.Z
    % tar -xvf sde82_ora92fix_ora9i_slrs.tar

  5. Before upgrading your Oracle instance, you must grant the following additional permissions to the SDE user in Oracle:

    ALTER ANY INDEX
    ALTER ANY TABLE
    ANALYZE ANY
    CREATE ANY INDEX
    CREATE ANY PROCEDURE
    CREATE ANY SEQUENCE
    CREATE ANY TRIGGER
    CREATE ANY VIEW
    CREATE SESSION
    DROP ANY INDEX
    DROP ANY VIEW
    DROP ANY PROCEDURE
    DROP ANY SEQUENCE
    EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE
    SELECT ANY SEQUENCE
    SELECT ANY TABLE
    UNLIMITED TABLESPACE

After the upgrade completes, you may revoke the following permissions from the SDE user account:

    ALTER ANY INDEX
    ALTER ANY TABLE
    ANALYZE ANY
    CREATE ANY INDEX
    CREATE ANY TRIGGER
    CREATE ANY VIEW
    DROP ANY INDEX
    DROP ANY VIEW
    DROP ANY PROCEDURE
    DROP ANY SEQUENCE
    EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE
    SELECT ANY SEQUENCE

  6. To upgrade, run the updated version of sdesetupora9i. Failure to do so may cause problems in starting the service or with connecting to the service:

    % sdesetupora9i -o upgrade

  7. Start your service:

    % sdemon -o start

Identifying QFE files on your machine

Any modified UNIX executables (or libraries) being sent out as part of a Quick Fix will return the unique identification number for that fix when checked with the "what" command for UNIX and the "strings" command for Linux. For example, to display the identification string for this Patch on UNIX, type:

  • %what sdesetupora9i | grep QFE

    QFE-SDE-82-CQ00172604 (08/02/2002)
