ArcSDE 8.2 Import Patch
ESRI is pleased to announce the ArcSDE 8.2 Import Patch. This patch contains fixes for only the sdeimport administration command. It fixes a number of problems with importing export files between different databases as well as issues importing export files between different Oracle geometry storage types. We highly recommend that ArcSDE 8.2 customers, regardless of database platform, download and install this required patch at their earliest convenience.
The fixes deal specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.
During installation, you can either save the original 8.2 files or overwrite them. If you choose to save them, make sure you have enough disk space. The estimated disk space requirements are:
HP® PA-RISC HP-UX®
HP64® PA-RISC HP-UX®
IBM® RS/6000® and AIX®
CQ00174213: SDEImport file created from oracle spatial can't be sdeimported to sdebinary, sdelob.
CQ00159597: An export file created from a LOB feature class cannot be converted to a LONG RAW feature class.
CQ00185671: Import from SpatialType exportFile into SDEBinary layer with SPIDX_GRID fails to generate spatial index.

Since this Patch replaces an ArcSDE 8.2 file, ArcSDE 8.2 must be installed before you can install this Patch. Install this patch using your SDE user account.
- Download the appropriate file to your $SDEHOME directory:
HP64 sde82_CQ00185193_hp64.tar.Z2 MB HP sde82_CQ00185193_hp.tar.Z2 MB IBM sde82_CQ00185193_ibm.tar.Z2 MB Linux sde82_CQ00185193_linux.tar.Z2 MB Sun Solaris sde82_CQ00185193_slrs.tar.Z2 MB SGI sde82_CQ00185193_sgi.tar.Z3 MB Tru64 (n/a)
- Uncompress and extract the specified tar file for your platform. Ensure that the last letter of the file name is a capital Z. Otherwise, the uncompress command will not work.
% uncompress sde82_CQ00185193_<Platform>.tar.Z
% tar -xvf sde82_CQ00185193_<Platform>.tar
- Make sure you have write access to the ArcSDE installation folder.
- Download the appropriate file to a location other than the ArcSDE installation folder:
- Use WinZip to extract the new sdeimport.exe to your %SDEHOME%\bin folder.
Any modified UNIX executables (or libraries) being sent out as part of a Quick Fix will return the unique identification number for that fix when checked with the "what" command for UNIX and the "strings" command for Linux. For example, to display the identification string for this Patch on UNIX, type:
%what sdeimport | grep QFE
To check for the presence of Quick Fixes, examine the unique identification information by a (right click, properties, version tab) action under Explorer. With only a few exceptions, all files modified as part of a QFE distribution can be uniquely identified in this manner. Under Windows 2000, select 'Product Version' under the 'Item name' column to see the unique identifier.
